Privacy policy

Information pursuant to Art. 13 GDPR on the processing of personal data on bitsandyears.com. The German version is legally binding; this English version is provided for convenience.

1. Controller

2. This website

bitsandyears.com is a static site. It sets no cookies, includes no analytics or advertising services and no third-party content, and contains no form. The fonts come from your system.

Whether the page appears light or dark follows your device setting at first. If you use the design toggle, your browser stores your choice (light or dark) under the key “by-theme” in local storage so that it is kept on your next visit. The value does not leave your device, no cookies are set and nothing is sent to us or to third parties. Legal basis: § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG (function expressly requested by the user) in conjunction with Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. You can delete the entry at any time in your browser settings. Nothing is stored unless you use the toggle, which is why there is no cookie banner.

3. Hosting and server log data

This website is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA) and delivered through its worldwide network (Cloudflare Workers). A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR including the EU Standard Contractual Clauses is in place with Cloudflare, and Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Delivery comes from the data center closest to the request, so data may also be processed outside the EU.

On every request the provider processes the usual technical request data in order to deliver and secure the site:

  • IP address (processed for delivery)
  • Date and time of the request
  • Requested URL and HTTP status code
  • Referrer (if sent by the browser)
  • User agent (browser and operating system identifier)

Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in providing the site securely and reliably). Retention: per the data policy of the provider (cloudflare.com/privacypolicy). We do not analyse this data ourselves and do not combine it with other data.

4. Contact by e-mail

If you write to info@bitsandyears.com, Cloudflare (Email Routing, see section 3) accepts the message and forwards it to a mailbox at Google (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). We process your e-mail address and the content of your message in order to answer it. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR if the request concerns our offer, otherwise (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering). We delete the message as soon as the request is settled and no retention duty applies.

The “Request updates” buttons only open your e-mail program with a prepared message to info@bitsandyears.com; data is transmitted only when you send it. If you request updates, we store your e-mail address in order to inform you once as soon as there is something to show. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR (consent given through your request). You may withdraw your consent at any time informally; your address will then be deleted. Retention: until the information has been sent or you withdraw, at most 24 months. No automated newsletter is sent.

5. The app

bits & years includes an app that is in preparation and not yet publicly available. This website transmits no data to it and offers no access to it. As soon as the app is released, this policy will be extended before the start to cover processing in the app.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the following rights:

  • Access to your stored data (Art. 15 GDPR).
  • Rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR).
  • Erasure of your data (Art. 17 GDPR), absent any legal retention duty.
  • Restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR).
  • Data portability in a structured, common format (Art. 20 GDPR).
  • Objection to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21 GDPR).
  • Withdrawal of consent with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3) GDPR).
  • Complaint to a supervisory authority, in particular the Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit (Art. 77 GDPR).

7. No automated decision-making

No automated decision-making, including profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR, takes place.

8. Updates to this policy

This privacy policy is updated when the underlying processing changes, for example with the launch of the app. The current version is always available at this URL.
